Verizon’s new way for customers to block email-to-text spam messages

From a Verizon press release, customers have a new way to block text messages that come from email addresses instead of phone numbers.

Customers can text OFF to 4040 to stop all email-to-text messages from coming through.

Verizon says that over 80% of email-to-text messages are reported as spam and until now there was no easy way to block all email-to-text message senders. In a previous blog post, I showed some examples of scam text messages that try to pretend they come from various accounts that you may have in an effort to extract your account information from you.

If Verizon customers have turned off email-to-text message receiving and later decide they want to turn it back on, they can text ON to 4040 to resume all email-to-text messages receiving.
